The Pont du Gard is a Roman aqueduct bridge with three levels, located between Uzès and Remoulins, not far from Nîmes. Spanning the Gardon River, it was likely built in the first half of the 1st century AD and was part of the Roman aqueduct system that transported water from Uzès to Nîmes. It was classified as a historical monument in 1840 and was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in December 1985.
